Dr Kathryn Hobbs
Originally from Derbyshire, I was educated at Matthew Holland Comprehensive in Selston.
Before heading up the David Nieper Academy, I was the senior deputy head at The Royal Alexandra and Albert School in Reigate, Surrey, and I am an OFSTED inspector for primary and secondary schools.
Previously, I worked as head of curriculum research at United Learning, operating across 27 schools all over England with responsibilities for school improvement and staff development. I have a joint honours degree in Music and Sociology from Keele University which I gained alongside my teacher training qualifications and a Psychology Degree from The Open University and a Doctorate in Education at Sheffield University.
Mr. Nathan Oxford
Assistant Head – Academic
I started teaching at Mortimer Wilson School as an NQT in 2006. Since then, I have successfully led ICT and Computer Science departments at Derby Moor Community School and the Netherthorpe School, Chesterfield. I returned to Alfreton Grange Arts College in 2012, as Assistant Head teacher, leading on Curriculum, Data and Timetabling.
I am excited, as part of the David Nieper Academy SLT, to continue to lead on all Academic areas within the School, to ensure that all students have the best possible opportunity to succeed.
Mrs. Emma Merchant
Assistant Head – Pastoral and Inclusion

I first started teaching as an English teacher in 2009 at Garibaldi College in Mansfield. During my 6 years at the school I helped support the school move from ‘requires improvement’ to ‘outstanding achievement’. In 2015 I successfully completed the ‘National SENCO Award and the specialist CPT3A award for Access Arrangements.
I joined Alfreton Grange in January 2016 as a Lead Practitioner in English and as part of the leadership team, we raised achievement to secure outstanding results. I was appointed Assistant Head – Pastoral in September 2016 and am really looking forward to leading the David Nieper Academy as we begin our journey to becoming an outstanding school.
Mrs. Anna Banner

I completed my AAT Level 3 qualification in 2015 and I am currently studying towards my AAT level 4. I was recently appointed as Finance and Operations Manager at David Nieper Academy and I am looking forward to taking on the various challenges facing us over the next year including the move into the new state of the art building and development of the Academy.
Ms Sarah Barnes

Since qualifying as a teacher in the UK, I have held various leadership positions in schools and was Head of the Music and Arts Service for Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council where I further developed my drive for community cohesion as a core part of developing young people’s learning experiences and self-efficacy.
