Armistice Day is a key event on the school calendar at the David Nieper Academy. This year as with everything, things have been a little different – however students have been remembering and paying tribute to the nation’s heroes and with no less affection and enthusiasm.
To allow for social distancing, the Academy held six remembrance assemblies throughout the day with students in their year group bubbles. Students were greeted to the services with piano music, by music teacher Miss Charlotte Pell and were all given a 2020 poppy pin from the Royal British Legion.
Head teacher Dr Kathryn Hobbs led the assemblies encouraging the students to think about some of this year’s heroes including Captain Sir Tom with his phenomenal fundraising and Invictus Games medallist JJ Chalmers.
Academy Chaplain, Rev Julian Penfold recorded on film some thoughts for students about the day and led the service in a moment of reflection, which was followed by the playing of the Last Post, a 2-minute silence and Reveille.
